Jan I sent you an email last week. The Blues traded the 29th pick to Calgary for Fox and a 4th Rd pick |

I was listening to the guys on Sirius XM NHL Radio last night on the way home from work, and they seemed convinced that the Habs wouldn't take Zadina at 3 and if the Habs stay in that spot the likely pick is Kotkaniemi. They also said that the Habs were fielding calls from around the league for the 3, and there is a good chance they don't pick in that spot. |

Considering the Rangers were trying to move up to 2, I can see them trying to trade up to 3. If they did I would assume it would be for Zadina right? |

I actually think the Habs would take that. Whether it would make sense for the Rangers is debatable.

I would think so. I think any team trying to move up to 3 is doing so to draft Zadina.

But mtl cant make sure Kotkaniemi would be there at nine tho. I’d think they wanna stay in 5-7 range. They seem hellbent on the specific player.

Yea that makes the most sense. Just scares me a little a lot of people have him sliding some. Would hate to give up a lot to go to 3 if he could be had cheaper a few spots back |

Seems to me Wahlstrom has as much offensive potential as Zadina so I wonder if the Rangers would just make sure they got Ollie. I’m sure I’m wrong on that tho haha. But I think a more likely scenario if they trade up is with Vancouver to jump the Hawks and get Wahlstrom. Or Tkachuk |

The deal you propose makes a center less of a need for them, so it would open up other avenues to go in the draft. But you are right, if they really are sold on Kotkaniemi, they may just draft him at 3 because there is not guarantee that he will be there with a later pick.
I think the Rangers did the same thing with Andersson last year. They may have been able to trade down a few spots to 11-12 to draft him, but they were totally sold on the kid and didn't want to mess around with it so just took him at 7.

The word on Wahlstrom is that he may be dependent on having a really good centermen -- i.e., he does not excel at creating his own opportunities. I don't think the same can be said of Zadina. I like Wahlstrom, but would probably prefer one of the defenders for the Rangers. But that's even close for me. Ask me tomorrow and I may feel different.
